BLOODY MARY
Bloody Mary, also known as Mary I of England, was the queen of England and Ireland from 1553 until her death in 1558. Nicknamed "Bloody Mary" because of her persecution of Protestants, she sought to restore Catholicism in England after the Protestant Reformation of her father, Henry VIII. Her reign was characterized by the brutal repression of heretics, resulting in numerous executions. Despite his efforts, he failed to completely reverse the Reformation and his legacy is overshadowed by the violence of his religious persecution.
